Congo-Brazzaville: Coup Rumors Denied by Government

President Denis Sassou Nguesso, who has been in power for 38 years, is in New York, United States, attending the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) while rumors of a coup attempt swirl in Congo-Brazzaville.




The country's Minister of Communication and Media, Thierry Moungalla, has denied the rumors on X (Twitter), calling them "fake news."
Netizens through their Social media accounts on Sunday claimed that a coup attempt was underway in Congo, but there has been no independent confirmation of this. The situation remains tense, but calm has returned to the capital city of Brazzaville.
