The Niger Military has announced through army spokesperson that they have over thrown President Mohamed Bazoum in what seems to be a military coup. ECOWAS has rejected and demands that the military frees President.

The overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger in a military coup was perhaps forecoming due to the historical context of coups and political instability in the region. Niger's neighboring countries have experienced a series of coups in recent years, creating a pattern of political upheaval and volatility across the region. The prevalence of coups in nearby countries like Mali and Chad may have influenced the political landscape in Niger, creating an environment where elements within the military or other factions might see coup attempts as a viable means of seizing power or expressing discontent with the government.

Furthermore, certain underlying factors within Niger itself could have contributed to the coup's likelihood. These factors might include deep-rooted socio-economic disparities, political corruption, ethnic tensions, and security challenges posed by extremist groups in the region. Such issues can weaken the government's legitimacy and effectiveness in addressing the country's challenges, creating fertile ground for dissent and unrest. Given this backdrop, it is plausible that some factions within the military or other dissident groups could perceive a coup as an avenue to address perceived grievances or take advantage of the government's vulnerabilities.
